Hi, I’m Bob and welcome to our website featuring Aviation Photography where you’ll find images and albums of airshows and aviation museums that we have visited, and our other aviation adventures as well. These images have been taken, almost exclusively, by myself, Bob Leroux.
My life-long interest in photography and aviation come together in this website showing images taken from the ground and from the air. I hope you enjoy viewing the images as much as I have enjoyed capturing them, and feel free to leave a comment or two on our Contact page.
I have been a pilot for most of my life, first learning to fly at Mount Hope Airport in Hamilton, Ontario as a teenager while in high school when I was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. After college I had a career as a pilot starting in the 1970’s as a flying instructor at Mount Hope. Next door to the flying school was the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum featuring mostly vintage aircraft that were from World War II. Often I would take my students to the museum for them to learn the various parts and pieces of the aircraft. Needless to say, my camera was often with me.
You could say that I learned to take “portraits” of aircraft at the museum. I would try to frame the subject aircraft with no identifiable modern items in the photograph. The photos often looked as if they could have been taken when these old Warbirds were operational.
The CWH museum had an airshow every June on Father’s Day and that’s when I had the chance to photograph the Warbirds from the museum and from across Canada and the United States. It was really quite a gathering and often there were aircraft types that I had never seen before so it was a great photo opportunity to explore and learn.
My later career as a pilot was with Transport Canada as a Civil Aviation Inspector in Vancouver, British Columbia and Ottawa, Ontario. Now that I am retired there’s more time available for photography and to fly my Piper Turbo Arrow IV.
